This Is The Best Skincare Line If You Wear Makeup Regularly

skincare for makeup users

While most of us love the made-up look, have you ever stopped and thought about what’s underneath all that make-up? In actual fact, something that seems relatively harmless and innocuous can really take its toll on our skin. For one thing, make-up covers pores, so it can lead to congestion, spots, and blemishes, made even worse by sweat that has nowhere to go. Wearing make-up when it’s very hot,  keeping it on during a work-out, and not taking it off at night, can all have an adverse effect.

That’s not the half of it though. You’d never guess but wearing make-up regularly can also lead to increased fine lines and wrinkles. Why? Because some of its ingredients can break down healthy collagen. Make-up can also prevent natural exfoliation, strip skin of moisture and hinder the regulation of oil control. Skin that’s performing less than optimally also tends to have a slower rate of cell renewal which results in a dull and dehydrated complexion, blemishes that don’t seem to heal and signs of premature ageing. It’s a bit of a wake-up call isn’t it!

Skincare For Makeup Users

Our skin needs as much help as possible and that’s especially true in the case of make-up users. We’d recommend using products within a skincare system instead of using a different brand of product for each stage of the skincare routine. That’s because these products have been specifically designed to work synergistically and complement one another.

The best selling Obagi Nu-Derm Fx® System, available in Normal-Dry and Normal-Oily is a great choice. This is an innovative, scientifically backed, and all-importantly, clinically proven comprehensive skincare system that balances and brightens skin every step of the way. It targets common concerns like premature ageing including hyperpigmentation and sun-damage, dullness, pore size, dryness, and dehydration.

The key to its remarkable efficacy is the plethora of transformative ingredients that actively change cells, correcting issues and preventing future damage. Key ingredient, 7% Arbutin, is a natural and effective skin-brightening agent. Other key ingredients used within this skincare system include Aloe Vera, Amino Acids, Glycerin, Lactic Acid, Phytic Acid (AHA) and witch hazel.

The utterly clever combination of treatment products within the Obagi Nu-Derm Fx® System creates a four-phase treatment journey through the  exfoliative and reparative cycles to create even toned, radiant, rejuvenated skin. So, we’re not talking about a topically short-term fix here. These products get down and dirty, treating the root cause of your skin issues deep down in the dermis and using this skin system requires time and commitment.

Clinical trials demonstrated that Obagi Nu-Derm Fx®, when used with Vitamin A (Retinol) over the course of 12-24 weeks improves the appearance of:

·       Age spots

·       Dull-looking skin

·       Erythema (redness)

·       Fine lines and wrinkles

·       Hyperpigmentation (discolouration)

·       Rough skin

·       Sallowness (yellowish complexion)

·       Skin texture

·       Uneven skin tone

By continuing with the treatment protocol, you can expect to maintain skin that is healthy and youthful and help to prevent future damage. That’s why users rave about the visible results that come with using this much-hailed skin care system.

The Best Obagi® Products for Make-up Wearers

Obagi Nu-Derm Fx® Exfoderm® Forte

Exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate! Don’t miss out on this vital step if you wear heavy make-up or are a regular make-up wearer.

Specially formulated for Normal-Oily skin, Obagi Nu-Derm Fx® Exfoderm® Forte is a clinical-grade exfoliator that contains Alpha Hydroxy Acids, Glycolic Acid and Lactic Acid.

It’s definitely a potent formulation which naturally exfoliates dull, dead skin cells, increases skin cell turnover, and diminishes dark spots, sunspots, and other signs of ageing. Expect a noticeably smoother, more even, glowing complexion after use.

Obagi Nu-Derm® Clear Fx

All too often, make-up wearers think that their skin is protected from the sun’s damaging rays. It’s not and the problem is that it’s only when premature signs of ageing appear, that the issue becomes apparent.
Thank goodness that Obagi® have formulated a unique skin-brightening corrective cream, designed to lighten dark spots and sunspots. Arbutin (7%) prevents the production of tyrosinase – the enzyme in the skin responsible for melanin production that leads to sunspots. Other antioxidants, including Lactic Acid, work to even out skin tone whilst simultaneously defending the skin from damaging free radicals. This product is suitable for most skin types, and used regularly, skin looks wonderfully radiant, smooth, and even toned.

Image

Obagi Hydrate®

Made-up skin can get easily dehydrated due to a lack of moisture. Ineffectual oil regulation, which can also be exacerbated by make-up can also lead to dryness. Having either of these or a combination can wreak havoc on skin and have long-lasting effects. So it’s absolutely imperative to use a hydrator that delivers exceptional nourishment.

Ground-breaking Hydromanil™ technology means that molecules within Obagi Hydrate® form a matrix on the skin’s surface. This is highly beneficial because it creates a barrier, enabling these miniscule skin saviours to remain on the cells for much longer. Whilst skin is instantly hydrated and nourished, even more importantly, this prevents further water loss and instead, it’s actually retained within the layers of the skin. By doing this, the molecules can gradually deliver nourishment from active compounds for up to eight hours.

If the words, beautifully smooth, supple and radiant, sound appealing and you’d like a visible improvement to fine lines, wrinkles and crow’s feet, then it’s time to convert to Obagi Hydrate® and see the results for yourself.

The Obagi Range You Need If You Suffer from Acne Prone Skin: CLENZIderm M.D.®

CLENZIderm M.D.®Daily Care Foaming Cleanser

A common complaint from those with problematic skin is that nothing seems to work. Without doubt, trying product after product without improvement can be downright demoralising. It often comes down to the fact that many acne treatments work on superficial blemishes rather than treating acne where it begins. It’s like targeting the symptom rather than the cause. So, time and again, they’ll keep reoccurring.

The other factor is that it’s important to give any acne treatment sufficient time to work. We all want an instant fix for spots and blemishes but even when you adopt a new product, there will already be pimples working their way up from under the surface that began life beforehand. Being patient when you desperately want your skin to improve is arduous, but vital. That said, if a product is not working after the recommended time, it may not be right for your skin.

Are there Obagi Products for Acne Prone Skin?

With a 30-year legacy of scientific expertise and clinically proven results, Obagi is a leader with its non-prescriptive clinical skincare products. The products have been specially formulated to transform skin from within, leaving skin visibly clearer, healthier and younger looking.

Obagi Nu-Derm Fx® System is one of the bestselling, most innovative, clinically proven skincare systems in the world. Available in normal-dry and normal-oily, this comprehensive non-prescription line has been formulated to dramatically improve the appearance of hyperpigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles, skin laxity, rough, uneven texture and adult blemishes and spots.

Image

Obagi® Retinol 0.5 is another product that can be useful for improving skin texture and tone which can be used alongside the Obagi Nu-Derm Fx® System. Minimally irritating, this formulation contains enriching Shea Butter, Jojoba Oil and calming Chamomile. It speeds up cell turnover which clears cell blockages faster, and with continuous use, can help reduce the occurrence of adult blemishes and spots.

Image

True to form, Obagi have also designed a cleanser specifically formulated for normal to oily skin, ideal for those that are prone to spots, pimples and blemishes. We’ll be talking about that in more detail shortly, but let’s look at why it’s so important to cleanse first.

Why Is It Important to Cleanse?

The first step in any skincare ritual, cleansing is much more than removing make-up and purifying the visible layer of skin. Certainly, a cleanser does lift away superficial debris consisting of make-up, dirt, dead skin cells, pollutants and SPF. That’s not all though. Oil, impurities and dirt that accumulate throughout deeper layers of skin must also be removed. Such detritus can cause a blockage of skin follicles which clog up pores. When this occurs, sebum becomes trapped and bacteria is able to penetrate skin, causing blemishes and breakouts.

A cleanser that uses active ingredients will penetrate more deeply, dissolving away the remaining oil and debris in the dermis. This ensures that any serums or moisturisers applied afterwards will be far more effective. A cleanser should also contain ingredients that help to balance pH levels and keep skin nourished and hydrated.

Obagi CLENZIderm M.D.® Daily Care Foaming Cleanser

Frustrated by spots, blemishes or breakouts?  CLENZIderm M.D.® Daily Care Foaming Cleanser is your go-to product. A lightweight formula, this Obagi BHA product contains 2% Salicylic Acid to penetrate deep within the pores. It clears away clogged pores by gently dissolving dead skin cells and oils that can be the cause of acne related concerns including blackheads, whiteheads and pimples.

Salicylic Acid

Salicylic Acid, a type of beta hydroxy acid (BHA) is this cleanser’s hero ingredient. An exceptionally effective component, it clears skin by gently exfoliating and dislodging dead skin cells that can clog pores. You might be surprised to hear that It’s also known for its calming and soothing properties. It’s actually a derivative of aspirin which explains why!

CLENZIderm M.D.®Daily Care Foaming Cleanser is a gentle formulation that can be used up to 3 times a day. Convenient and easy to use, simply apply a small amount of the foam to the entire face. Rinse thoroughly and gently pat dry with a clean towel or cloth. These are powerful, transformative ingredients so we’d always recommend beginning with a once daily application then gradually increasing to twice or three times daily as necessary, and despite its powerful action, this cleanser still leaves skin feeling wonderfully refreshed and purified without any tightness or dryness. Menthol is also in there to help calm irritated skin too. So, if you’d like clearer, healthier, blemish-free skin, this is the cleanser for you.

How To Avoid Hyperpigmentation and Remove Dark Spots

How To Avoid Hyperpigmentation and Remove Dark Spots

What is Hyperpigmentation?

Hyperpigmentation is a common skin condition that often occurs as skin matures. It’s typically referred to as the darkening of certain parts of the face, often across the bridge of the nose, cheeks, and forehead. The cause of hyperpigmentation is an excess of melanin, the brown pigment that produces our normal skin colour, which forms deposits in the skin.

How to Avoid Hyperpigmentation

It’s inevitable that our skin will age over time. Fine lines, wrinkles, discolouration, hyperpigmentation, and dark spots are all visible signs that this process is occurring. But the rate at which they develop can be affected by our lifestyle, health, genetics, and sun exposure. There is much we can do to correct and prevent signs of ageing.

Hyperpigmentation, a particularly frustrating skin condition, is usually related to photodamage but can also be caused by hormonal changes and genetics. UVA and UVB rays damage the DNA in skin cells, causing mutations and loss of elastin, collagen and firmness. The big problem is that so many of us forgo sun protection during our twenties and thirties, only to regret it later on in life.

One of the most important things to have in your armoury against sun damage is SPF. Wearing it daily protects your skin from harmful UV rays that cause sunburn, sunspots, wrinkles, sagginess, leathery skin, dullness, uneven and hyperpigmentation, and in the worst scenario, skin cancer.

Obagi® takes skin protection extremely seriously. So much so, that the luxury skincare brand has raised the bar with its clinically-proven, cutting-edge SPF formulations that can be used daily underneath make-up.

Obagi Sun Shield Matte™ Broad Spectrum SPF50 is suitable for all skin types and an especially good choice for those with oily skin or who prefer to have a matt complexion. This daily SPF offers broad spectrum protection from both UVA and UVB rays and can be used with all Obagi® Systems.

obagi sun shield mate broad spectrum spf 50

A trio of highly effective ingredients offer unrivalled skin protection. Zinc Oxide deflects the UV rays, while Homosalate and Octisalate work to absorb and release radiation. Sun Shield Matte leaves a sheer, matte finish that reduces shine whilst simultaneously offering a remarkably high sun factor protection 50. This formulation is non-comedogenic, so it won’t block pores either. Fragrance-free and dermatologist-tested, it can also be used by those with sensitive skin too.

It’s never too early to use an SPF when it comes to taking care of skin and protecting it from damaging rays. OBAGI360 HydraFactor®SPF30 is another great option for users of the OBAGI360® System and for those falling within the 20s to 30s age-group.

OBAGI360 HydraFactor® SPF30 uses advanced technology designed to absorb UV rays and release them from the body. The potent combination of Glycerin and Hydromanil™ also ensures instant and long-lasting hydration. Hydromanil™ molecules, which are derived from the Tara Seed, form a tight matrix across the skin’s surface allowing them to remain on the cells for longer. This ensures that skin is instantly nourished, whilst water loss is prevented and nourishment from active compounds is gradually released over time.

Obagi360 Hydrafactor SPF 30

If you’re in the 20 to 30s age-group, don’t delay on using an SPF. Add it to your daily skincare ritual and revel in the fact that your skin will look younger for longer with this ultimate defensive SPF.

How to Remove Dark Spots

If you’ve got dark spots and pigmentation already, don’t despair. Help is on its way. Obagi-C® Fx C-Clarifying Serum is a clinically proven formulation that lightens and brightens skin, perfect for targeting hyperpigmentation and dark spots.

The Obagi-C® Fx System is an innovative skincare system that combines Vitamin C and Arbutin to promote rejuvenation and even the skin tone for radiant, healthy and youthful skin. It’s perfect for targeting progressive signs of ageing and sun-damage like fine lines, wrinkles, dullness, hyperpigmentation and photoaging. Arbutin is well-known for its skin brightening properties and can be used to improve the appearance of hyperpigmentation for a more even complexion. This serum is a 2 in 1 formulation that also contains a powerful infusion of L-ascorbic Acid, Vitamin C in its most potent form. This gives Obagi-C® Fx Clarifying Serum powerful antioxidant properties, minimising signs of ageing and notably, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Vitamin C also boosts collagen production for more supple and elastic skin and it strongly defends skin against free radicals, preventing any further damage and future-proofing skin. For optimal results, use it as part of the Obagi-C® Fx System.

Get Ahead Of The Trend: 5 Autumn Skincare Secrets You Need To Know Now

Gecombineerde Huid

Summer 2022 is here for us to enjoy, but right around the corner is Autumn, and along with it comes a whole new set of skincare trends. We’ve been looking into these so that you can stay ahead of the curve, and stay skincare savvy throughout the year.

From less is more, to double cleansing and eye rejuvenation, we’re here to walk you through the top 5 predicted skincare trends for Autumn 2022.

Double Cleansing

Cleanse not once, but twice! Increasing your sunscreen use, the rise in temperatures and perspiration over Summer may have left you with congested skin. As the temperature lowers and Autumn sets in you may start to notice excess oil production as your skin adjusts to cooler weather. To keep oily skin at bay, double cleansing is a go-to, and a trend for Autumn this year.

After you have cleansed your skin once, repeat the cleansing process again straight afterwards. This can be done 2-3 times per week and will help to reduce blemishes, blackheads and excess sebum.

It is vital not to double cleanse with a harsh cleanser, something more mild, but still potent like the Obagi CLENZIderm M.D.® Daily Care Foaming Cleanser will work great! This cleanser contains 2% salicylic acid, a powerhouse skincare ingredient proven to unclog pores, reduce blemishes and exfoliate away dead skin cells. This ingredient makes this cleanser the perfect Obagi BHA product.

Eye Rejuvenation

It doesn’t look like face masks are going away anytime soon. Lockdown restrictions and COVID-19 PPE left a lot of us wondering how we can brighten and rejuvenate our eye area. Summer came along and having fun was at the forefront of our minds, making Autumn the perfect time to target eye area concerns.

Why not try the Obagi ELASTIderm® Eye Complete Complex Serum, this serum contains the advanced, patented Bi-Mineral Contour Complex™ Technology which creates, converts and organises elastin in the skin to give you a firmer, more youthful appearance. Alongside this, the ELASTIderm® Eye Serum reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and contains caffeine to increase microcirculation and reduce under-eye puffiness, for a brighter more awakened look.

Less Is More

This Autumn, skincare trends will feature around creating a natural, radiant glow, for a ‘less is more’ look. The aim of the game is to use fewer, more concise products to create maximum results. Throughout the past year we’ve learnt that time is not to be wasted, so let’s not waste time with skincare products that aren’t going to get results – this Autumn get a skincare routine that will deliver for your skin type. Aren’t sure where to start? We’ve got the skincare duo for you!

The Obagi360® range includes potent products to address fine lines, wrinkles, enlarged pores, breakouts, pigmentation, uneven texture and dull skin. This product range is perfect for skincare newbies, or those looking for a refined skincare routine.

The Obagi Retinol 0.5 and HydraFactor® Broad Spectrum SPF30 make the perfect skincare duo for Autumn 2022. The two products work in unison to help you achieve more hydrated, even skin, minimising blemishes and refining tone and texture.

97% of patients using the Obagi360® System saw an improvement in their skin within the first week of use.

Skin Brightening

With sunscreens and humid weather it can make it difficult to achieve that dewy, radiant look without appearing oily or shiny, there is a very fine line! With Autumn almost here it’s time to change up your skincare routine to refine your skin, and create a luminous natural glow.

The holy grail ingredient for skin brightening is vitamin C, also known as l-ascorbic acid (this is the purest form of vitamin C). Selecting a serum with this ingredient is sure to boost your skin’s radiance.

We’d recommend the Obagi-C® Fx C-Clarifying Serum, a potent antioxidant serum containing 10% l-ascorbic acid and 4% arbutin. This luxury serum works to diminish hyperpigmentation, so if over summer you’ve spent a little too long in the sun and developed a few pigmentation patches, or if you have any age spots you’d like to fade, this serum is what you’re looking for.

The Obagi-C® Fx C-Clarifying Serum will reduce fine lines and wrinkles, boost collagen production, protect against free radical damage and give you that sought after, natural boost of radiance, so you can feel glowing and fresh all autumn long.

Lightweight Hydrators

Lightweight hydrators will be at the top of skincare wishlists this Autumn, after a Summer of applying thicker sunscreens and make-up it is important to rehydrate your skin. Following the less is more trend, super hydrating multi-functioning serums are in!

The Obagi Daily Hydro-Drops™ Facial Serum is a perfect choice, and works to hydrate the skin whilst also targeting fine lines and wrinkles. This hypoallergenic, non-comedogenic serum contains omega-6, omega-6, niacinamide and abyssinian and hibiscus oils. This carefully selected blend of ingredients will help to support the skin’s natural barrier function, improving moisture retention, deeply hydrate, reduce pore size and protect against free radicals – so you feel hydrated and refreshed.

4 Dermatologist Approved Cleansers for Sun Damaged Skin

obagi cleansers

We all love the sunshine but it’s fair to say that it doesn’t always love us back! Sadly, prolonged overexposure to ultraviolet radiation can be extremely damaging to our skin. The main culprits are UVA and UVB rays which cause change to the skin at a cellular level.

When DNA is damaged, it can result in cell mutations, genetic defects, skin cancer and premature ageing. The truth is that after a lifetime of absorbing the sun’s rays, most of us have some element of sun-damage. To counteract it, our daily skincare ritual must work with the skin to correct, repair, and restore it.

Cleansing is the first step in any daily routine. It’s vital to use a cleanser that’s well-suited to your skin type and individual concerns but also one that primes the skin to receive targeted treatments.

Initially, a cleanser lifts away superficial debris consisting of make-up, dirt, dead skin cells, pollutants, and SPF. An effective cleanser will also contain active, transformative ingredients that penetrate the skin more deeply, clearing away remaining oil and debris, lower down in the dermis. Doing this means that skin is left thoroughly cleansed and ready to absorb other products with optimal efficiency. Aside from the obvious role of cleansing, active ingredients may also be included to target specific skincare concerns, including brightening skin, hydration or fine lines and wrinkles

Obagi® Dermatologist Approved Cleansers for Sun Damaged Skin

Using the right cleanser for your skin type is obviously important. Thankfully, Obagi® have a wide range of cleansers that have been clinically tested on the entire Fitzpatrick skin spectrum and are dermatologically approved.

The Best Cleanser For Sensitive Skin or Skincare Newbies

Obagi CLENZIderm M.D.® Daily Care Foaming Cleanser

Obagi® for Sensitive Skin

Sensitivity can present as inflammation, irritation, bumps, burning or redness. Common skincare ingredients like alcohol, harsh exfoliants, essential oils and fragrance can exacerbate the situation. Instead of calming irritation, they often make the problem far worse. The problem is that many drugstore products contain these very ingredients. If you suffer from sensitive skin, we won’t need to tell you how difficult it is to find suitable skincare products.

Fortunately, Obagi® is a skincare brand that fully understands this dilemma. They have over 30 years of scientific expertise and their transformative products are clinically proven, and dermatologist tested on all of the Fitzpatrick skin types. Allergenicity and irritation form part of the rigorous testing process in this brand’s unmatched efficacy studies.

With a deep understanding of how skin works at a cellular level, the philosophy has always been to support skin health and transform it from within with results that can be seen and felt. What-ever your skin type, Obagi® has a solution for everyone!

The Best Cleanser for Sensitive Skin

Our skin has to contend with all sorts of nasties throughout daily life, including excess oil, impurities, dirt, pollution, and dead skin cells which accumulate on its surface. This debris can be the cause of blocked skin follicles and clog up pores, trap sebum and allow bacteria to penetrate skin. Breakouts, blotchiness, inflammation, and a lacklustre complexion can all be experienced as a result.

The first and arguably, most important step in any skincare routine is cleansing so it’s crucial to use a cleanser that works for your skin type. This is because it will help you achieve optimal results from the follow-on products.

Sensitive skin can be reactive to certain chemicals so milder, gentler ingredients that calm and soothe skin tend to be more suitable. Just because ingredients are gentle though, it doesn’t necessarily prevent them from being able to penetrate deeper down and clear away remaining oil and debris in the dermis.

Obagi Nu-Derm® Fx Gentle Cleanser has an incredibly gentle formulation that effectively removes makeup, oil residue and impurities caused by the everyday environment. It’s the perfect antidote to sensitive skin because it includes natural soothing nourishers like Oat Amino Acids, Aloe, Apricot Kernel Oil, Panthenol, Sage Leaf Extract and Borago Officinalis Extract, plus Glycerin to soothe and hydrate dehydrated skin.

Obagi Nu-Derm® Fx Gentle Cleanser helps you on your way to achieve clear, smooth, bright, and more healthy-looking skin when used as part of Obagi Nu-Derm Fx® System.

The OBAGI360® system has been specifically formulated for those within this age-group, to preserve youthful looking skin. This popular skin system also tackles enlarged pores, acne prone skin or blemishes and spots, leaving skin fresh, purified, and healthier.

Alternatively, the best-selling, clinically proven Obagi Nu-Derm Fx® System, available in normal-dry and normal-oily, is another superb choice. This lightweight formulation contains the hero ingredient, 2% Salicylic Acid. It’s a highly effective form of beta hydroxy acid (BHA) which deeply penetrates and unclogs pores by gently exfoliating and dislodging dead skin cells. Another benefit is that Salicylic Acid also improves the absorption and penetration of follow-on products. This Obagi BHA product is most effective in removing dead skin cells and revealing clearer looking skin.

Obagi Clenziderm Foaming Cleanser

Used regularly, this cleanser will directly target the cause of spots and prevent them from forming in the first place so that skin appears healthy and blemish-free. You’ll also be amazed at how refreshed and cleansed it feels without any of the tightness or dryness often associated with similar products.

For those with sensitivity, Menthol is in there to calm irritated skin and guess what? Salicylic Acid also has calming and soothing properties too! Obagi CLENZIderm M.D.® Daily Care Foaming Cleanser can be used alongside the Obagi Nu-Derm Fx® System or OBAGI360® System.

3 Ways Your Skin Changes From Your 20s To 30s

Obagi skin test

You may notice a few changes in your skin when going from your 20s to your 30s, this is very normal and to be expected, but with a great skincare routine you can limit these changes to keep your skin looking and feeling youthful.

It’s often in our late 20s and early 30s that we’ll start to notice the appearance of fine lines, the start of wrinkles and perhaps some sun damage and pigmentation, they can almost feel like they’ve appeared overnight, which is why we’re here to let you in on the changes to expect and the products to help address them.

Acne

Your acne may still be around, with hormonal flair ups and the occasional spot making an appearance. However as you enter your late 20s acne can change, and women often start to see hormonal acne – deep, cystic bumps around the chin and jawline.

Drying products used on whiteheads won’t help to reduce cystic acne, instead you’ll want to try a vitamin C product to reduce the inflammation of cystic acne. Vitamin C is great at reducing redness and inflammation, soothing irritated skin and protecting against free radical damage.

The Obagi-C® FX C-Cleansing Gel is a 2-in-1 cleanser containing vitamin C and aloe barbadensis leaf juice to protect against free radical damage, reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and promote collagen production. This cleanser will resurface the skin, exfoliating away dead skin cells to reveal brighter, younger, smoother and clearer looking skin.

Obagi-C® Fx C-Cleansing Gel

Wrinkles

The fine lines around the eyes that appear when you smile or frown may become more prominent in your late 20s and 30s, as you age they will become visible when you’re resting your face. Women don’t often welcome fine lines and wrinkles, they’re a key sign of visible ageing, but can also be seen as evidence that you’ve laughed and experienced happy times – just what life is about!

If you’d like to reduce the appearance of wrinkles try incorporating AHAs into your skincare routine. AHAs like glycolic acid will exfoliate the skin, increasing cell turnover which will reduce the depth of wrinkles, creating a more youthful appearance.

A highly recommended AHA product is the Obagi-C® Fx C-Exfoliating Day Lotion, with Vitamin C. Complete with hyaluronic acid, this lotion will plump your skin, whilst the glycolic acid works to diminish pigmentation and wrinkles. Vitamin C glycosides have been carefully added to this formula to enhance collagen production, further minimizing signs of ageing.

A vital factor in preventing future signs of ageing is ensuring you protect your skin from harmful UVA and UVB damage. Wearing a high factor SPF like the Obagi Sun Shield Matte™ Broad Spectrum SPF 50 will help protect your skin from sun damage and free radical damage, so you can stay protected and keep looking youthful.

Obagi-C® Fx Exfoliating Day Lotion.

Pigmentation

The next change you may experience in your skin as you age is an increase in pigmentation, perhaps a few dark spots have appeared, often on your forehead, cheek bones or hands, as they are the places often hit by the sun. Limiting sun exposure and wearing an SPF, like the Obagi Sun Shield Matte™ Broad Spectrum SPF 50 will help to prevent future pigmentation forming.

Obagi Sun Shield Matte™ Broad Spectrum SPF 50

These Celebrities Swear by Obagi Products and Here’s Why

Celebrity skincare

Stop the press. Female celebrities have been seen out and about without a stitch of make-up on. We can report that this strange phenomenon is occurring everywhere. In newspapers and magazines, on social media and in the flesh at big industry red carpet events. YOU might even have joined in, taking part in challenges to post a photo of your natural self that have since gone viral.

So what’s going on here? And why do we still seem to be shocked whenever we see someone comfortable in their own skin? It’s reassuring to see strong, talented, and empowered female celebrities. Surely these are the role-models that we want for our daughters right?

Less is more

The No-Makeup Movement’s mantra, ‘bare means beautiful’ is gathering momentum by the day. Rather than slathering on a ton of make-up, many have chosen to focus on their skincare routine to achieve a flawless, luminous look instead.

Hollywood actress Drew Barrymore has made it known that one of her favourite products is Obagi Nu-Derm® Clear Fx

This unique skin-brightening corrective cream has been designed to lighten dark spots and sunspots, leaving skin bright, smooth and even. It’s suitable for most skin types so can easily be slotted into your daily skincare ritual.

Arbutin (7%), extracted from Bearberry plants, prevents the production of tyrosinase – the enzyme in the skin responsible for melanin production that leads to sunspots, a sign of the ageing process. Additional antioxidants, including Lactic Acid, help enhance the appearance of even skin tone while protecting the skin from free radicals. It’s a fantastic addition to any skincare routine.

Celebrities’ favourite moisturisers

Any celebrity worth their salt completes their skincare routine with a deeply nourishing moisturiser. All of Obagi’s hydrators have been clinically proven to provide eight hours of skin moisture retention with innovative 2-in-1 Hydromanil™ Technology (Hydrate® and Hydrate Luxe®) and Isoplentix™ Technology (Daily Hydro-Drops™).

So what exactly is Hydromanil™? It might sound like an interesting scientific discovery but does it do anything useful? The answer is a resounding yes! In actual fact, this cutting edge technology is the key to longer-lasting hydration. Derived from the Tara Seed, which retains water, Hydromanil™ molecules form a matrix on the skin’s surface. A strong barrier is absolutely crucial because it enables water to remain on the cells for longer, instantly nourishing skin, preventing further water loss and equally important, gradually delivering further nourishment from active compounds over time.

Even better is patented microfluidic Isoplentix™ technology, which means that each droplet of each key ingredient is made individually and suspended to preserve its purest form until the time of application. Isoplentix™ technology also removes the need for unnecessary emulsifiers that can irritate sensitive skin.

Obagi Hydrate®, utilises these ground-breaking technological advancements plus naturally enriching ingredients like Shea Butter, Mango Butter and Avocado Oil. It’s hypoallergenic, non-irritating, and suitable for all skin types.

If you want to banish skin dryness forever, follow the celebs and add this hydrator to your daily skincare repertoire. It can also be used as a targeted treatment for fine lines, wrinkles and crow’s feet.  Used regularly as part of your skincare routine, skin will feel unbelievably smooth and supple and appear gloriously radiant, and look more youthful.

It shouldn’t have come as any surprise when Real Housewives of New York star Leah McSweeney admitted in her interview with Glamour Magazine to using Obagi Professional-C® Microdermabrasion Polish Mask 2-3 times a week. You only have to look at her wonderfully luminous skin to see its incredible results.

Obagi Professional-C Microdermabrasion Polish + Mask

This powerful 2-in-1 formula, contains ultra-fine crystals for exfoliation plus a powerful infusion of 30% L-ascorbic Acid, more than any other Vitamin C product in the industry. It instantly leaves skin exceptionally radiant and smooth to the touch. Used regularly, you’ll also find that the overall tone and texture of your complexion improves as does the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Now what celebrity would turn their nose up at that!

The Summer 2022 Rundown On SPFs

3 Ways To Enhance Your SPF

With the recent spate of good weather, summer seems to be finally making an appearance. So, if you’re not already applying SPF as part of your daily skincare routine, it’s definitely time to start. But is it really necessary you might be thinking? After all, many of us do desk jobs and hardly ever see the sun! That might be the case, but if you add up all of your little interactions with the sun’s rays, like walking the kids to their school, sitting outside the pub on Saturday afternoon, the picnic on Sunday and walking from the car park into town several times a week, they begin to add up.

What is UV Radiation?

Ultraviolet radiation is a form of electromagnetic energy emanating from the sun. There are also some artificial sources of UV rays including tanning beds, lasers, and black lights.

Why is UV Radiation Damaging to Skin?

Energy makes things happen and that causes change. In the case of skin cells, UV radiation damages the cell’s DNA. This can result in cell mutations, genetic defects, burns, loss of collagen and elastin, accelerated premature ageing including fine lines, wrinkles and dark spots and in the worst case, the development of skin cancer. Put it this way, it’s not good news.

How Can I Protect My Skin from UV Radiation?

It all sounds pretty scary but thankfully, protecting your skin against the sun’s rays is relatively easy and doesn’t have to break the bank. The simple act of applying a daily SPF cream can make all the difference. It acts as a barrier, deflecting harmful rays and defending skin from future damage. It’s such an important step in the morning skincare routine that SPF is recommended by The Skin Cancer Foundation.

The Summer Run Down on SPFs

Obagi have used their 30 years of scientific expertise to create highly effective, cutting-edge SPFs to suit your skin’s needs.

All of the Obagi SPF products provide either physical, chemical, or combined protection against UVA, UVB and IR rays, in a range of different finishes.

The Matte SPF

Obagi Sun Shield Matte™ Broad Spectrum SPF50, as featured in Cosmopolitan, is suitable for all skin types, particularly those with oily skin or who prefer a matte complexion. This excellent formulation offers broad spectrum protection from both UVA and UVB rays and is suitable for use with all Obagi Systems. It’s also non-comedogenic, meaning it won’t block pores. Even more impressive is that it’s hypoallergenic, fragrance-free, and dermatologist-tested so is suitable for use on all skin types including those with sensitivity.

The supreme efficacy of this product comes down to a trio of hero ingredients. Zinc Oxide deflects the UV rays, while Homosalate and Octisalate work to absorb and release radiation away from the body.

Gone are the days of heavy, greasy, oily sunscreen. You’ll be glad to know that Sun Shield Matte™ does exactly what it says on the tin. After use, it leaves a sheer, matte finish to reduce shine as well as sun factor protection 50.

The SPF for Younger Skin

OBAGI360 HydraFactor® SPF30 is a great SPF for users of the OBAGI360® System and for those in their 20s and 30s. This 2-in-1 daily moisturiser and sunscreen provides instant, all-day hydration, whilst simultaneously defending against broad spectrum UVA and UVB sun damage.

How does it work? Advanced technology means that this product actually absorbs UV rays and releases them from the body. Glycerin is in there to boost instant hydration whilst Hydromanil™, an innovative clinically proven ingredient, is the key to long-lasting hydration. These molecules, which are derived from the Tara Seed, form a matrix on the skin’s surface and as a result, can remain on the cells for longer. Thirsty skin is immediately nourished, but more importantly, further water loss is prevented and nourishment from active compounds is gradually delivered over the course of the day.

Not only that, but this SPF counteracts the first signs of ageing and protects against future damage through its powerful anti-inflammatory ingredients which help to promote skin elasticity and improve fine lines and wrinkles. It leaves skin feeling calmed, soothed, and looking wonderfully radiant.

Which Active Skincare Ingredients Should You Never Mix?

Obagi Spot Relief Kit

So you’re keen on skincare, we are too, there’s lots to learn, like layering of active ingredients! You may spend your evenings layering on some of your favourite serums and creams, but not all active ingredients mix well, and can cause irritation, dryness and breakouts if layered incorrectly. We’re here to help outline the facts, so you can get the best results from your skincare products.

From vitamin-c’s, to AHAs and retinoids, we’ve got the low down on what not to mix.

Retinol

Not to be layered with: Vitamin C, AHAs or BHAs.

Retinol is a powerful antioxidant, and powerhouse skincare ingredient, brilliant at reducing signs of aging and clearing breakouts. Whilst being an amazing active ingredient, retinol can cause sensitivity to the sun and therefore SPF should be worn after applying retinol.

Much like retinol, AHAs and BHAs (alpha and beta hydroxy acids) can also cause skin to become sensitive to the sun, so remember, retinol and AHAs & BHAs shouldn’t be mixed! The excessive exfoliation of both ingredients is likely to lead to irritation, redness and excess skin sensitivity.

If you wish to have both products in your skincare routine, stick with using retinol in the evenings only, and use the AHA or BHA face wash or serum in the mornings once or twice a week.

If you’re looking for a retinol based product to introduce into your skincare routine, why not try the Obagi360 Retinol 0.5 to exfoliate away dead skin cells, reduce visible signs of ageing and help keep breakouts at bay.

Obagi360 Retinol 0.5

Vitamin C

Not to be layered with: Retinol

Vitamin C is an antioxidant, which protects the skin from oxidative free radical damage. This ingredient works to lighten dark spots and brighten the skin for a clearer, more radiant complexion, and due to this, products containing vitamin C are best used in the morning.

In the skincare world, retinol and vitamin C are worlds apart, and this should be reflected in your routine! Apply your vitamin C products in the morning to brighten and protect your skin throughout the day. Don’t mix this ingredient with retinol; retinol promotes collagen production, repairs the skin, and is best applied at night.

Ensure to keep these two active ingredients separate from each other, as they have two very different functions, so work best independently.

A highly recommended vitamin c product is the Obagi Professional-C® Serum 15%, clinically proven to stimulate collagen production, reduce fine lines and wrinkles and protect the skin from environmental damage.

Obagi Professional-C Serum

AHAs & BHAs

Not to be layered with: AHAs, BHAs or Retinols

AHAs and BHAs are powerful active ingredient groups, they work to exfoliate the skin, to deliver a clearer, more even tone and texture – by doing so the skin becomes increasingly sensitive to sunlight, so it is recommended that SPF is applied after AHAs or BHAs, and they are not to be layered with retinols.

Glycolic acid, a powerful AHA, should not be mixed with salicylic acid, a potent BHA, unless in a pre-formulated blend. Applying a salicylic acid serum with a glycolic serum will leave your skin dry, over-exfoliated and possibly quite red! Less is more in this case, so don’t layer multiple AHA and BHA products, rather choose your favourite and stick with that.

Why not try the Obagi Nu-Derm® Exfoderm® Forte, containing both glycolic and lactic acid, this preformulated blend of AHAs will help to keep skin looking radiant, whilst reducing breakouts and signs of ageing.

Obagi Nu-Derm® Fx Exfoderm® Forte

Niacinamide

Not to be layered with: Vitamin C

Niacinamide and vitamin C are a big no no! Niacinamide will cancel out the beneficial properties of vitamin C, causing irritation and inflammation. Keeping these two active ingredients apart, layering them together can lead to breakouts.

To avoid disaster and experience the benefits of both active ingredients, use your vitamin C products in the morning only, and leave your retinol based products for use at night time.

Niacinamide is a pore refining agent, it will reduce the appearance of enlarged pores to give a more even, smoother complexion. After applying your Niacinamide, try the Obagi Daily Hydro-Drops® Facial Serum to smooth and hydrate your skin.

OBAGI DAILY HYDRO DROPS

SPF

Not to be layered with: …it can be layered with everything!

Don’t forget your SPF. SPFs can be layered with all active ingredients. Best applied in the morning, prior to make-up application, SPFs can do a brilliant job at preventing environmental damage and signs of ageing caused by UVA and UVB rays – SPFs are suitable for, and recommended to everyone!

Looking for a staple SPF for your skin routine? Try the Obagi Sun Shield Matte™ Broad Spectrum SPF50, for ultimate protection against UVA and UVB sun damage, so you can look your most youthful, always.
