Take Our Skin Quiz to Personalise Your Skincare Routine

You can’t use a one size fits all approach when it comes to skincare. That’s because a skin product should suit your specific skin type as well as factoring in your age and concerns. Not forgetting that if you’re using more than one product, it should also combine to work together  with the other products in your daily regime. After all, you don’t want to use something, only for the next product to completely erode all its good work.

So whether you’re a seasoned user of skin products or just beginning on your skincare journey, it really can be a minefield knowing what will or won’t work effectively for your skin.

Skin Type

It’s important to ask some crucial questions before you part with your hard-earned cash. Firstly, figure out your skin type, meaning whether it’s normal, dry, oily, combination or sensitive.

Normal skin tends to be well-balanced meaning its moisture levels are good and spots or blemishes are rare, whilst dry skin is epitomised by tightness, flakiness, dullness and an obvious lack of moisture. In the longer-term, that can also lead to a loss of elasticity and with that comes fine lines and wrinkles.

Oily skin tends to be shinier and more prone to breakouts and acne. In reality, not many of us have truly oily skin as it’s often the central t-zone featuring the forehead and nose that’s affected, meaning that the person has combination skin.

Sensitive skin, on the other hand, often experiences redness, irritation, flakiness, and blemishes, usually aggravated by harsh ingredients.

Understanding how your skin behaves means that you can begin to tailor your skincare routine with products formulated for your skin type. But that’s not all. You should also check your skin type according to the Fitzpatrick scale. This is a skin classification system that was originally developed by Thomas Fitzpatrick, MD of Harvard Medical School, back in the mid-70s. He identified 6 skin types ranging from light to dark pigmentation and the risks of skin cancer associated with each skin type. Those with skin types I and II are most at risk of skin cancer whilst individuals at the other end of the spectrum have less chance. The key reason for knowing your Fitzpatrick skin type is that it will guide you towards a sun protection strategy, which is of paramount importance if you want to avoid skin cancer and premature ageing.

Skin Concerns

It’s important to prioritise your skin concerns and work out what bothers you the most. That way, you can gear your skincare routine to tackle the issues at the top of your list, whether that be blemishes, hyperpigmentation, sensitivity, sun protection or wrinkles.

Something that can really help you determine your skin type, where you are on the Fitzpatrick scale and prioritise your concerns is the Obagi Skin Quiz. It’s so easy to do! Simply answer a couple of questions and it will provide you with the answers and even give you personalised recommendations to get you started.

If spots or wrinkles are your main concern, add SUZANOBAGIMD™ Retivance® Skin Rejuvenating Complex into your daily routine. Suitable for all skin types including sensitive skin, this innovative formulation uses a form of Vitamin A named Retinaldehyde instead of the more well-known Retinol. It’s a highly effective ingredient that is directly converted into Retinoic Acid by the skin meaning it can rapidly improve the skin’s firmness and elasticity as well as minimise fine lines and wrinkles. Also, because Vitamin A increases cell turnover, it’s quicker at clearing out dirt, debris and blockages which leads to clearer skin and less blemishes or spots too.
